Women and girls’ health

The Health and Social Care Committee has identified women’s health as a priority in its strategy for the Sixth Senedd.

>>>The lack of a specific ‘women and girls’ health plan in Wales was highlighted by a number of respondents to the Committee’s consultation on priorities for the Sixth Senedd.

>>>The Minister for Health and Social Services gave a commitment during the Committee’s scrutiny of the Welsh Government’s draft budget 2022-23 on 13 January 2022 to “developing a women’s health proposal” and “putting a real focus” on health issues for women.

>>>On 10 March 2022, the Committee held an oral evidence session with the Women's Health Wales Coalition.

>>>On 25 March 2022, the Committee wrote to the Minister for Health and Social Services regarding the women and girls’ health quality statement and plan. The Minister responded on 11 May 2022.

>>>On 18 July, the Committee wrote to the Minister to ask further questions about the women and girls’ health quality statement and plan. The Minister responded on 26 September 2022.

>>>In November 2022, the Committee launched an inquiry into gynaecological cancers.

>>>On 6 December 2023, the Committee published its report, Unheard: Women’s journey through gynaecological cancer. The Committee also published a summary of the report and an accompanying media release.

>>>On 8 March 2024, the Welsh Government laid its response to the Committee’s report.

>>>On 15 May 2024, a plenary debate was held in the Senedd Chamber.

>>>In June 2025, the Committee wrote to the Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing seeking an update on the implementation of the recommendations contained in  Unheard: Women’s journey through gynaecological cancer. The Welsh Government responded to our letter on 28 July 2025.
