Follow-up work on Brexit preparedness

Background

A key strand of the External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee’s work was to explore the issue of Brexit preparedness. This work has previously encompassed:

The Committee since undertook follow-up work on Brexit preparedness.

Evidence gathering

The Committee took evidence from the Welsh Local Government Association, Universities Wales, and the Welsh NHS Confederation during its meeting on 20 May 2019, and from the Federation of Small Businesses Wales during its meeting on 3 June 2019. The Committee received written evidence from Wales Trades Union Congress (PDF,111KB), and Food and Drink Wales (PDF,120KB).

Following the sessions and receipt of written evidence, on 19 June 2019 the Chair wrote (PDF, 188KB) to the Counsel General and Brexit Minister about Brexit preparedness in Wales. The Counsel General and Brexit Minister responded (PDF,302KB) on 18 July 2019.

On 4 November 2019 the Committee held evidence sessions with representatives from the ports, transport, food and farming sectors. On 11 November 2019 the Committee held an evidence session with representatives from the public services sector.

Output

Following the evidence sessions held in November 2019, the Chair wrote (PDF, 362KB) to the Counsel General and Brexit Minister to make recommendations to the Welsh Government. The Counsel General and Brexit Minister responded (PDF, 504KB) on 7 January 2020.

On 21 November 2019 the Chair wrote (PDF, 256KB) to the First Minister to request an update of the Welsh Government's work Brexit preparedness work since Parliament dissolved. The First Minister responded (PDF, 270KB) on 6 December 2019.
