Oral evidence session with the Llywydd and Assembly Commission - consideration of the evidence

Minutes:

4.1     The Committee discussed the evidence received.

4.2     Members agreed to ask the Llywydd to provide the Committee with the following additional information:

·         Measures by which the capacity of the Assembly could be increased without increasing the size of the Assembly.

·         Examples of devolved legislatures which have arrangements for working collaboratively with other tiers of governance as part of their formal parliamentary business.

·         Analysis of the Assembly’s sitting times and number of sitting weeks, and any implications for the Assembly’s capacity and the exercise of Members’ other roles and responsibilities.

·         Updated estimated costs of any increase in the number of Assembly Members.

·         Information about how measures to encourage diversity might be framed so as to fall within the Assembly’s legislative competence.

·         Views on the extent to which the current devolution framework enable the collection of Assembly election candidate data, and any actions the Assembly Commission or others could take without the need for further legislation.
