The
Committee considered correspondence from the Cabinet Secretary for Economy and
Infrastructure and the petitioner and, given the positive response from the new
Cabinet Secretary and previous assurances around protecting the Brimmon Oak, agreed
to close the petition.

has given procedural advice to the petitioners.

The
Committee considered correspondence from the petitioners and agreed to write to
the Minister to seek her views on the petitioners’ further comments and
specifically their concerns about:
o
the
badger proof fencing which will potentially endanger the root system;
o
the
lack of knowledge about the registration of the tree with the Woodland Trust in
2009; and
o
the
nature of the ‘minimal work’ needed within the 15 metre tree root protection
zone.

has visited the tree with Mr Lloyd Jones and made representations at a public
inquiry meeting held at Newtown.
The
Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write to the
Minister to ask her to set out whether she supports the preservation of the
tree and what action she intends to take to ensure its protection.
