P-04-559 Secondary School Awareness of Self-Harm
This
petition was submitted by Eleanor Price, having collected 12 signatures.
Petition
text:
We
call on the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to put in
place more educational programmes (specifically in Secondary Schools) to
counteract many peoples misunderstanding of self-harm.
A
growing issue amongst teenagers in Wales, 43% of people know somebody who has
self-harmed according to a BBC survey. In the same survey, it was reported that
41% think that self-harm is selfish.
Additional
Information:
Due
to the sheer volume of occurrences in self-harm among teenagers in Wales, I
feel that there should be more awareness and approachability of the subject.
Why should a teenager suffer in silence? This is why I believe that as a
country we should provide more substantial resources for a sufferer to find
free assistance in battling self-harm.
