Active Travel in Wales

Active Travel in Wales

In September 2024, the Auditor General for Wales published a report on Active Travel in Wales. Shortly before that, the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Board published its annual report for 2023-24.  The Public Accounts and Public Administration Committee undertook an inquiry into Active Travel, informed by issues raised by both these reports.

Oral evidence sessions

On 4 December 2024, 22 January 2025 and 6 February 2025, the Committee held oral evidence sessions with key external stakeholders.

On 5 June 2025, the Committee held its final oral evidence session with senior Welsh Government officials.

Committee visit

In May 2025, Mark Isherwood MS, the Public Accounts and Public Administration Committee Chair visited Ljubljana, Slovenia to inform this inquiry. Slovenia was considered to be appropriate because of its similar population size to Wales, similar GDP per capita, as well as its mixed topography.

Report publication

The Committee published its report on 18 December 2025. The Welsh Government’s response was laid on 16 February 2026.

Plenary debate

A plenary debate took place in the Senedd Chamber on 25 February 2025.
