Scrutiny of Accounts – Welsh Government 2020-21

Scrutiny of Accounts – Welsh Government 2020-21

The Public Accounts and Public Administration Committee considers the Annual Report and Accounts of the Welsh Government.

The Auditor General for Wales signed his certificate and report on the Welsh Government Consolidated Accounts 2020-2021, the same day the Accounts were approved, on 4 August 2022, and the Accounts were laid before the Senedd the following day, on 5 August 2022.

This was nine months later than the agreed timetable for finalisation.

The Committee received regular private updates on the progress being made in finalising the accounts. The Auditor General for Wales and the Welsh Government provided updates, enabling the Committee to monitor the situation.

The delay was raised in Plenary on 18 January 2022 and on 29 June 2022 the Chair made a statement regarding this in Plenary.

The Committee held evidence sessions with Welsh Government officials on 6 and 19 October 2022.

The Committee wrote to the Permanent Secretary on 11 November 2022 in relation to a number of issues arising from the meeting held on 19 October 2022.

The Permanent Secretary responded to the Committee’s letter on 9 December 2022 and the Committee considered the response at its meeting on 26 January 2023.

The Committee agreed its report: Scrutiny of Accounts Welsh Government 2020-21 which was laid on 27 March 2023.
