Scrutiny of Accounts – Welsh Government 2020-21
The
Public Accounts and Public
Administration Committee considers the Annual Report and Accounts of the Welsh Government.
The
Auditor General for Wales signed his certificate and report on the Welsh Government
Consolidated Accounts 2020-2021, the same day the Accounts were approved,
on 4 August 2022, and the Accounts were laid before the Senedd the following
day, on 5 August 2022.
This
was nine months later than the agreed timetable for finalisation.
The Committee received regular private updates
on the progress being made in finalising the accounts. The Auditor General for
Wales and the Welsh Government provided updates, enabling the Committee to
monitor the situation.
The
delay was raised in Plenary on 18 January 2022
and on 29 June
2022 the Chair made a statement regarding this in Plenary.
The
Committee held evidence sessions with Welsh Government officials on 6 and 19 October 2022.
The
Committee wrote
to the Permanent Secretary on 11 November 2022 in relation to a number of
issues arising from the meeting
held on 19 October 2022.
The
Permanent Secretary responded
to the Committee’s letter on 9 December 2022 and the Committee considered the
response at its meeting
on 26 January 2023.
The
Committee agreed its report: Scrutiny of Accounts Welsh Government 2020-21
which was laid
on 27 March 2023.
