Health literacy

Health literacy

The Committee previously identified health literacy as an Area of Research Interest (ARI). Health literacy is about an individual’s ability to find, understand, and act on health information, to know which health services to use, when to use them, and to be active partners in their care. It’s also how relevant organisations meet those needs, enabling individuals to access, understand and use health information and services.

The Committee published its ARI in August 2022 and subsequently asked Dr Emily Marchant from Swansea University, supported by  Professor Tom Crick, Department of Education and Childhood Studies, Swansea University, to produce some work in this area.

Dr Marchant has produced two reports for the Committee:

>>>>

>>>‘Health, Education and Prosperity for All: Wales as a Health Literacy Testbed’, December 2023

>>>School-based health literacy for children and young people in Wales’, April 2023

<<<

The Committee has considered both reports and has agreed to utilise their insights in its future inquiries.
