The Economy, Trade, and Rural Affairs Committee has been set up by the Senedd to look at policy and legislation, and to hold the Welsh Government to account in specific areas. These areas include business, economic development, skills, international trade, agriculture, fisheries and food.

The Committee undertook a snap-shot inquiry to assess the current position of the research, development and innovation landscape in Wales and the effectiveness of:

>>>Public funding: including funding levels; barriers to access; regional differences across the UK and Wales

>>>Collaboration: between universities and industry

>>>Support for Welsh businesses: through research and development

>>>Welsh Government’s approach: including its recent Innovation Strategy
