Decarbonising the public sector

Decarbonising the public sector

Inquiry2

The Climate Change, Environment and Infrastructure Committee is undertaking a short piece of work on decarbonising the public sector. The Committee’s work follows the Audit Wales’ report, Public Sector Readiness for Net Zero Carbon by 2030 (July 2022), which found there is clear uncertainty about whether the ambition for public bodies to meet net zero by 2030 will be met. The report makes five ‘calls to action’ for public bodies to tackle common barriers to progress:

>>>>

>>> Strengthen leadership and demonstrate collective responsibility through effective collaboration.

>>> Clarify strategic direction and increase pace of implementation.

>>> Get to grips with the finances needed.

>>> Know skills gaps and increase capacity.

>>> Improve data quality and monitoring to support decision making.

Evidence gathering

Building on Audit Wales’ work, the Committee is undertaking a targeted consultation, aimed primarily at public bodies. Further details are available on our consultation page.

The Committee will held oral evidence sessions with stakeholders on 16 March 2023. More information on the evidence sessions can be found under the meetings tab at the top of the page.
