P-06-1221 Reject plans for the Wentlooge Farmers’ Solar Scheme, a solar farm on the outskirts of Marshfield

This petition was submitted by Helen Rowena Colvin, having collected a total of 122 signatures.

Text of Petition:

This plan intends to develop a 152 hectare solar farm on the Gwent Levels, a Sight of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Unique in it's habitats and biodiversity.

Plans should be rejected for the negative impact they will have on the environment and the habitats of rare species. Also for the negative impact they will have on the living environment of local villagers.

We call upon the Welsh Government to consider less environmentally valuable sites to meet their renewable energy pledge.

Additional Information:

The Welsh Government have rejected plans for a new M4 relief road to run through the SSSI based on environmental reasons. It would be hypocritical to permit development of what is tantamount to a solar power station through the same area, simply because it contributes to the Labour pledge for renewable energy. More appropriate sites should be found.
