Health and Social Care: Priorities for the Sixth Senedd

Health and Social Care: Priorities for the Sixth Senedd

Inquiry5

The Health and Social Care Committee has been set up by the Senedd to look at policy and legislation, and to hold the Welsh Government to account on specific issues. This includes the physical, mental and public health and well-being of the people of Wales, including the social care system.

Priorities consultation – summer 2021

Between July and September 2021 the Committee asked people and organisations to share their views on the most important issues and priorities for health and social care during the Sixth Senedd. The Committee received 139 responses.

The Committee used the responses to develop a strategy for the Sixth Senedd.

Strategy for the Sixth Senedd – December 2021

The Committee published its strategy for the Sixth Senedd and a summary in December 2021. A web-based version is also available.

The strategy sets out an ambitious vision for health and social care over the five years from 2021 to 2026, and how Committee members will work together. It identifies cross-cutting themes that will be embedded across the Committee’s work, and identifies priority issues.

The strategy will guide and shape the Committee’s work, but will not constrain its ability to be flexible or responsive to emerging issues.

Interim review – February 2023

Our strategy included a commitment to reflect on our work to date and what further actions we could take to drive progress.

In February 2023 we conducted an interim review. We published the outcomes of the review, including four key conclusions, in June 2023.
