Food and feed safety and hygiene (FFSH)
Food and feed safety and hygiene (FFSH)
Background
The UK
Government published
the Food and Feed Safety and Hygiene provisional framework as a command paper
on 27 November 2020.
Food and feed
safety and hygiene is a largely harmonised area of EU law, covering general
food and feed law, food and feed safety and standards, official controls, and
public health controls on imported food.
The UK and
Welsh Governments made a large volume of legislation under the EU (Withdrawal)
Act 2018 to correct EU law to work in a domestic context after the end of the
transition period. This includes transferring functions from EU to UK and
devolved bodies. The FSA consulted
on its approach to correcting FFSH law between 4 September and 14 October 2018.
Evidence

The External Affairs and Additional
Legislation Committee considered the FFSH framework at its meeting on 3
December 2020.
At its meeting on 1
February 2021, the External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee
received a technical briefing on the FFSH framework by officials from the FSA.
