P-05-1113 Introduce road safety measures on the A44 in Llanbadarn Fawr, Ceredigion

Text of Petition:                     

The A44 is a main trunk road for vehicles heading towards Aberystwyth. This road runs from before the industrial estate, under the railway line, through the populated village of Llanbadarn Fawr and is often busy with pedestrians, cyclists and heavy traffic. Pedestrians often have to run under the railway bridge as there is no footpath and also across the A44 on a blind corner in the Pwllhobi part of the village. Representations have been made to the Welsh Government yet no action has been taken.

Additional Information:

We are calling for improved road safety on the A44 Trunk Road in Llanbadarn Fawr, Ceredigion, with:

- a 20mph speed limit,

- a pedestrian crossing in Pwllhobi and

- a tunnel for a footpath under the railway.

Status

This petition was considered completed by the Petitions Committee at its meeting on 09/02/2021.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and noted the statement by the Minister for Economy, Transport and North Wales that a crossing will be installed and further work will be considered in the next financial year. The Committee also noted the statement that community consultation on whether this section of road should be included in the national implementation of a 20mph default speed limit will need to be led by the local authority, and concluded there was little it could do at a national level at present. The Committee therefore agreed to write to the petitioner to thank him for raising the issue, propose that he raises the Deputy Minister’s response with Ceredigion County Council for their consideration and to close the petition.
