Legislative Consent: Census (Return Particulars and Removal of Penalties) Bill
This is a matter where the consent of the Senedd is sought by the UK Government to legislate on an issue which could normally fall within the competence of the Senedd.
The Census (Return Particulars and Removal of Penalties) Bill was introduced in the House of Lords on 1 May 2019.
The Bill seeks to amend the Census Act 1920 and the Census Act (Northern Ireland) 1969 to remove the penalty for not responding to new census questions on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The Welsh Government laid a Legislative Consent Memorandum (LCM) on the Bill before the Senedd on 15 May 2019 (PDF, 74KB).
