NDM7047 Plaid Cymru debate - TATA Steel and ThyssenKrupp Merger - Withdrawn
NDM7047 Plaid Cymru debate - TATA Steel and ThyssenKrupp Merger - Withdrawn
NDM7047 Rhun ap Iorwerth (Ynys Môn)
To propose that the National Assembly for
Wales:
1. Notes that TATA Steel and ThyssenKrupp
announced that they propose to sell the Trostre steel plant in Llanelli as part
of a proposed merger of both companies.
2. Further notes that trade unions
representing workers at the TATA plants in Wales have said that they are now
unconvinced that the merger is the best option for TATA Steel Europe and have
expressed concerns that the joint venture is not a partnership of equals, and
believe that future strategic decisions may prioritise the interests of the
ThyssenKrupp operations over those of TATA Steel Europe.
3. Notes that the European Commission has
extended the deadline of its review of the planned joint venture deal until 17
June.
4. Calls on the Welsh Government to object
the merger as currently proposed and to make representations on that basis to
the European Union Commission, the UK Government and the Board of TATA Steel
Europe.
