Scrutiny of the Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales strategy
On 17 January 2019 the Welsh Government published its draft Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales strategy for consultation.
The Children, Young People and Education Committee decided to consider the draft strategy from a children and young people’s perspective. The Committee did not intend to duplicate the Welsh Government’s consultation; rather, its aim was to ensure that, at an early stage in the development of an all-age policy, the specific needs of children and young people would be met.
On 6 March the Committee engaged directly with a small group of relevant stakeholders. The issues identified by the stakeholders and Members were put to the Chief Medical Officer in a public session on 14 March.
Given the relevance of this work to the remit of the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee, an open invitation (PDF 80.2KB) was extended to its Members to participate in this work.
The Committee submitted its formal response (PDF 203KB) to the Welsh Government’s consultation on 11 April 2019.
