The Welsh Government's new Welsh Language Strategy

The Culture, Welsh Language and Communications Committee inquired into the Welsh Government’s proposed welsh language strategy.  

Between August and October 2016 the Welsh Government consulted on their new Welsh Language Strategy to achieve their stated ambition to have a million Welsh speakers by 2050.

The Committee issued a call for written evidence, separate but concurrent to the one held by the Welsh Government. The aim of the inquiry was to seek to inform and influence the Government’s new strategy at a formative stage. 

The Committee asked people to write in with their views on improving workforce planning and support for practitioners for all phases of education and ensuring a sufficient workforce for Welsh-medium education and teaching as a subject. 

The Committee asked interested parties for their comments at their meetings between November 2016 and January 2017.  

Report 

A report of the findings of the inquiry ‘Achieving the Ambition Inquiry into the Welsh Government’s new Welsh Language Strategy’, (PDF; 672KB) was published in May 2017.

The report was debated in Plenary on 4 October 2017.
