Youth Work

Inquiry5

The overall aim of this ‘snapshot’ inquiry was to review the effectiveness of the Welsh Government’s strategy and policy in respect of youth work. The Children, Young People and Education Committee held a public consultation to gather evidence on the following points:

  • Young people’s access to youth work services;
  • How effective the Welsh Government strategy and policy on youth work is;
  • Funding for youth work (Local Authority, Welsh Government, European, Third Sector);
  • Any other issues considered to be relevant to the Inquiry.

[Note: This inquiry did not seek evidence on local and national youth participation structures, which the Committee regarded as an important issue and which would require further consideration within its work programme.]

The Committee published its report on the findings of the inquiry:
What type of youth service does Wales want? Report of the inquiry into Youth Work (PDF 1,146KB)

The response to the inquiry from the Minister for Lifelong Learning and Welsh Language has been published. (PDF 293KB)

The Committee indicated its intention to keep a close eye on progress in relation to youth work in Wales.
