The Children, Young People and Education Committee is scrutinising the implementation of Professor Graham Donaldson’s Review Successful Futures: Independent Review of Curriculum and Assessment Arrangements in Wales.
The implementation plan ‘A curriculum for Wales – a curriculum for life’ has set out an ambition of 2018 for the new curriculum to be available. Progress on implementation will therefore be monitored regularly by the Committee throughout the development of the new curriculum.
Dr Nigel Newton from Cardiff University attended Committee on 14 November to provide an update on the impact of the new Curriculum for Wales on disadvantaged learners. His report, “Successful Futures for all: Exploration of curriculum reform” was published on 8 November. At the meeting he presented his findings in a PowerPoint presentation.
The Minister for Education attended Committee on 18 September 2019 to update the Committee on the progression of the development of the curriculum reform.

After the session the Chair wrote to the WLGA and ADEW to seek clarification about their jointly submitted written evidence. (16 January 2019). Responses from the WLGA and ADEW were received on 31 January 2019.
The Committee sought views from stakeholders on the progression of the development of the curriculum reform.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education and Professor Donaldson attended Committee on 6 December to update Members on the development of the new curriculum.

Following the evidence received from stakeholders and the Cabinet Secretary for Education the Committee wrote to Welsh Government to highlight their findings on the progress of curriculum reform in Wales. The Cabinet Secretary for Education responded on 17 February.

The Committee met with Professor Donaldson and key stakeholders to discuss progress on the implementation of the Review’s recommendations. The Committee wrote to stakeholders and Pioneer schools to seek their views. Responses are published in the documents list below.
