Inquiry into Poverty in Wales: community-based approaches to tackling poverty
Inquiry into Poverty in Wales: community-based approaches to tackling poverty
The
Communities, Equality and Local
Government Committee undertook an inquiry into poverty in
Wales. The inquiry was divided into four strands, each focusing on one
particular issue. Each strand was self-contained, with its own terms of
reference, but taken together formed an overarching piece of work.
Community-based
approaches to tackling poverty
The
terms of reference were to consider:
- the geographical consistency of
anti-poverty initiatives;
- the effectiveness of area-based
anti-poverty programmes such as Communities First;
- the progress on the recommendations of
the Assembly’s former Rural Development Committee’s 2008 report into
‘Poverty and deprivation in rural Wales’.
Evidence
The
Committee held a public consultation to gather evidence
on this topic.
The
Committee considered the evidence it received and subsequently wrote
to the Minister for Communities and Tackling Poverty, asking
her to address a number of points arising from that evidence. Her
response has been published.
The
Minister attended the Committee’s meeting on 27
January 2016 to
discuss the evidence and her response in more detail.
