Consideration of procedural matters ahead of the Seventh Senedd

The Senedd Cymru (Members and Elections) Act 2024 (‘the Act’) contains a number of provisions that will necessitate changes to Senedd procedures, including amendments to Standing Orders and associated guidance.

In light of this, the Business Committee is considering a range of matters to ensure that all necessary Senedd reform-related procedural preparations are made prior to the election of the Seventh Senedd in May 2026. 

The first aspects of this work focus on changes required to Standing Orders relating to different categories of Members of the Senedd, in light of changes to the Senedd’s electoral system made by the Act.

This work will progress to consider other aspects of the Senedd’s procedures, as well as any recommendations made by the Future Senedd Committee.
