Purpose of the consultation
The
National Assembly for Wales (Official Languages) Act 2012 requires the Assembly
to approve an Official Languages Scheme for each Assembly. The Culture, Welsh Language and
Communications Committee scrutinised the draft Scheme for the fifth
Assembly before being submitted for approval by the National Assembly.
The
Committee sought written views on the draft scheme to help inform it’s scrutiny
of it.
Evidence
The
Committee intends to hold an oral scrutiny session with the National Assembly
Commission Member responsible for Official Languages.
The
Committee requested written evidence from:
- The Welsh Language Commissioner;
- Cymdeithas yr Iaith;
- Equality and Human Rights Commission;
- Dyfodol i’r Iaith (Future for the Language);
- Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru (The Welsh Translators Association);
- Mentrau Iaith Cymru (Language Initiatives Wales); and,
- National Assembly for Wales Trade Unions.
