Purpose of the consultation
The
National Assembly for Wales’s Health
and Social Care Committee has undertaken work on access to medical technologies in Wales.
The
Committee gathered views on the scope of this inquiry including the terms of
reference for this work, and on what aspects of accessing medical technologies
they should focus their efforts.
This was an opportunity to
comment on the scope of the inquiry only, not to submit
written evidence. The Committee
issued a further call for more detailed written evidence once the terms of
reference were agreed.
The
Committee welcomed comments on:
- the
uptake of medical technology in Wales, and the possible barriers to
effective new (non-drug) treatments being more accessible to patients;
- current
appraisal processes for new medical technologies;
- the
decision-making process in NHS Wales on funding new medical
technologies/treatments.
The consultation has now closed.
