EVENT: Teaching Citizenship: Challenges and Opportunities

Date: Tuesday 19 September 2023

Time: 12.00 - 13.30

Location: Neuadd, Senedd

Description: The event looks at how citizenship education is taught following the Curriculum for Wales, which was introduced from 2022 onwards. The event will start with a presentation of the research results of a research project by academics in the Open University who have been examining the opinions and experiences of learners, teachers and head teachers in Welsh schools on citizenship education. That is followed by a question and answer session, and observations by the Minister for Education and Welsh Language and the Director of the Open University in Wales. It will provide an opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced in delivering citizenship education, and the opportunities related to it, in secondary schools, in the context of global transformations that disrupt the foundations of contemporary democracies.

Open to the public: Attendance at the event is by invitation only however the Senedd and the Pierhead will remain accessible to the public during our normal opening hours.
