EVENT: MockCOP Climate Change Champions

Date: Wednesday 20 November 2019

Time: 14.30 - 17.00

Location: Siambr Hywel, Ty Hywel

Description: This event aims to inspire young people to take positive action on climate change by running “change makers” sessions with them in advance of the main MockCOP event on Thursday and by continuing to work with them after the event to develop them into “Climate Champions”. These first sessions of the mock climate conference event, MockCOP Climate change Champions, will see a range of activities, specially designed to encourage our young participants to think about how they can use their voice to inspire change and positive climate action. The following day the young people will be acting as representatives of Countries in the MockCOP UN style debate. The overall objective is to work directly with the young people to design a unique and empowering Climate Change Champions programme allowing us to continue engaging and providing a platform for the climate leaders of the future. The young people taking part in the programme will be developing their understanding of climate change, global issues and sustainable development, developing their debating and public speaking skills and confidence and learning empathy (by standing in the shoes of other nations and considering multiple perspectives). The young people taking part in MockCOP will have been chosen (from their applications) to come to this event, after attending a regional MockCOP in Wales this year.

Open to the public: Attendance at the event is by invitation only however the Senedd and the Pierhead will remain accessible to the public during our normal opening hours.
