EXHIBITION: “Emblems of Wales. Representing Wales and its People”.

Description: “Emblems of Wales. Representing Wales and its People”. Seven large suspended ceramic sculptures by Margaret Berry including a ten-foot flying dragon. Taliesin (circa 500-542) representing poetic inspiration. The bard stands composing a poem in the company of a fish, a hare and a bird; Hywel Dda (880-950) representing control walks a tightrope; Llywelyn ap Gruffydd/Ein Llyw Olaf (1223-1282) representing independence skydives, completely free; Owain Glyndwr (circa1354-1416) representing land ownership kneels in armour, contemplating the lands of the Welsh counties; Robert Owen (1771-1858) representing social principles sits cross-legged engaged in conversation; Bryn Terfel (b1965) representing voice stretches his bird wings in flight. It also features a ten-foot flying dragon which is red on the inside representing its spirit, assuming character is more important than outward appearance. Additionally: There are miniature red dragons along the length of its spine; Tongue symbols run the length of the spine below the miniature dragons. These are the symbol of the Welsh Language Society; The wings are in the colours of the Welsh National flag: red, green and white, again adopting the tongue pattern; "Draig" is inscribed in the back of the dragon's head.
