2.1 The Committee received an update on European issues affecting the Committee’s portfolio.

 

Action points:

 

·         The Research Service would provide clarification on the statistics for young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEETS) for 2010.

·         The Research Service would provide more information about pan-European joint working regarding issues in respect of child trafficking.

·         The Research Service would provide more information about best practice in Europe on the provision (including work-based learning) for engineering skills.

Action point:

 

·         The NTfW agreed to provide further information on how often their members are invited to join 14-19 Network planning committees and actively participate in planning 14-19 provision for the Network area.

4.1 The Chair welcomed the witnesses. Members questioned the witnesses on the implementation of the Learning and Skills (Wales) Measure 2009.

 

Action points:

 

·         Careers Wales agreed to check whether dual stream schools were facing difficulties offering and delivering the full range of options.

·         Careers Wales agreed to supply figures of ‘employers into classroom sessions’ on an all Wales basis and also to provide some examples of common prospectuses.

·         Careers Wales agreed to supply information on the work being undertaken by Warwick University to update the Careers Wales web pages with information on the labour market.
