Minutes:
2.1 The Committee received evidence from John Griffiths AM,
Minister for Culture and Sport, and his officials.
2.2 During the session, the Minister and his officials agreed
to the following:
- to provide figures of
increases in visitor number to Cadw monuments for the first quarter of
this year;
- to provide details of
the work carried out by Cadw so far in relation to reducing their carbon
footprint and utility bills;
- to provide a copy of
the Arts Council’s response to the Minister’s 2014 – 15 remit letter;
- to raise with the
Minister for Education and Skills the issue of local authorities needing
to ensure contact between schools and libraries in their areas, and to
report back to the Committee;
- to provide the figures
for Welsh Government investment in museums outside Cardiff;
- to share details of
the research undertaken in relation to the health risks of sedentary
adults in different socio-economic groups;
- to arrange for the
Committee to receive a note on the issue of ensuring that the ‘Llyfrau
Llafar Cymru/Talking Books Wales’ initiative is viable in the future;
- to provide a note on
the impact of the discontinuation of the Community Radio Fund;
- to provide a note on
the impact of the reduction in funding provided to the Welsh Books
Council.

2.1The Committee heard evidence from the Minister for Culture and Sport. The Minister agreed to provide notes on the following:
The issues surrounding the recent losses of heritage sites in wales and the possibility of providing an emergency service until the time and resources are available to re-develop these sites;
Information on outreach work undertaken by theatre companies in Wales to widen participation of the arts within communities;
Research into the impact of the success of Cardiff City football club and Swansea City football club on participation levels in football as appose to viewing sport in Wales;
Update on discussions between the Minister and the Managing Director of Media Wales.
