The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to:

 

·         close the petition in light of the petitioner’s indication that the Committee may conclude its work and he will pursue other avenues following the Minister’s decision to endorse the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group recommendation not to recommend Pegvisomant; and

·         monitor the circulation of the Ministerial Statement on the next steps following the review of the appraisal of orphan and ultra orphan medicines in Wales.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to:

 

·                     Invite the WHSSC to give oral evidence around the concerns raised by the petitioner, and also express concern over the lack of response; and

·                     write to the Minister asking for a timeframe of the review of rare diseases and whether that will impact on the matters covered by the petition.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to;

 

·         share the Minister for Health and Social Services recent written statement with the petitioner, and seek their views on the correspondence from the Minister and WHSSC; and

·         write to WHSSC about concerns over the length of time taken to respond to the Committee.   

 

The Committee indicated they may consider taking oral evidence from WHSSC at a future date.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write to:

 

·         the Minister for Health; and

·         Welsh Health Special Services Committee (WHSSC) seeking their views on the petition.
