Peredur Owen Griffiths MS made a factual correction to comments which were made during the Committee’s last consideration of the petition on 18 March.

The Committee considered the petition alongside P P-06-1359 Offer Welsh working parents the same financial support for childcare as England and noted the debate in the Senedd which heard the concerns of parents across Wales.

In light of the debate and the Minister’s response, Members agreed to close the petition and thank the petitioners for raising the important issue.

In addition to closing the petition, the Committee agreed to continue to fight for the rights of working parents throughout Wales, in their capacity as individual Members of the Senedd.

The Committee considered this petition along with petition P-06-1359 Offer Welsh working parents the same financial support for childcare as England.

The Committee agreed to write to Business Committee in order to request time for a debate in Plenary. In writing to Business Committee, Members agreed that if answers to questions raised surrounding both petitioners are identified in the budget scrutiny, then the request for a debate will be withdrawn.

The Committee also agreed to write to the Children, Young People and Education Committee in order to bring both petitions to their attention and to ask that they consider the issues raised in both petitions in their budget scrutiny.

The Committee discussed the petition and noted petition P-06-1359 Offer Welsh working parents the same financial support for childcare as England, which was considered at the last meeting.

Members agreed to write to the Welsh Government on both petitions to highlight the issues raised by Oxfam Cymru and seek further clarity before deciding on the next steps to take.
