The Committee considered the petition and agreed to inform the petitioner of the Welsh Government consultations taking place on the issue. Members agreed that they have taken the petition as far as it can and closed the petition and thanked the petitioner for raising the issue.

The Committee reconsidered the petition in light of further correspondence received and agreed to write back to the Minister to ask what arrangements are in place to support self-catering businesses who will be unable to meet the occupancy level due to lack of demand, in particular during the next year or two and if statistics show a sharp decline in self-catering properties, whether the Welsh Government revisit the occupancy rates and consider reviewing them.

The Committee considered the petition and noted the concerns highlighted regarding some self-catering businesses struggling to meet the occupancy threshold. However, Members noted that the legislation is already in force and the issue has been debated on many occasions in the Senedd. The Minister has made her views clear and that it’s now a matter for local authorities. The Committee agreed that there was little further they could do and agreed to close the petition and thank the petitioner.
