The Committee considered the petition and noted that it had been considered multiple times and welcomed the Welsh Government having taken significant steps to address the petitioner’s concerns. Members agreed to now close the petition, thank the petitioner, and share their most recent correspondence with the Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee, with a view to this being an area that Committee could choose to follow up on.

Luke Fletcher MS declared a relevant interest as he had been working with Epilepsy Action Cymru for some time now. The Committee noted the five key actions being requested by Epilepsy Action Cymru and agreed to write to the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care to ask what exactly was being done to address those issues regarding epilepsy service provision. The petition would be kept open pending the Cabinet Secretary’s response.

The Committee considered the petition and agreed to write to the Deputy Minister for Social Services and seek her views on the report published by Epilepsy Action Cymru.

 

Members also thanked and congratulated the petitioner for raising awareness of the issue.

The Committee noted the response from Hywel Dda University Health Board and agreed to discuss the petition again when a response is received from the Welsh Government on the Epilepsy Action Cymru report.

The Committee considered the petition and agreed to write back to Hywel Dda University Health Board noting their disappointment that no response has been received and requesting they now submit a response.

 

The Committee also welcomed the work undertaken by Epilepsy Action Cymru and agreed to share their report and recommendation with the Health Minister and seek her response to these.

The Committee considered the petition and agreed to write back to the Minister for Health and Social Services to ask how the Welsh Government are monitoring that each health board has the appropriate level of support that is needed.

 

The Committee also agreed to write to all Health Boards in Wales to ask what services and resources are in place to meet the needs of people with epilepsy across Wales, and if there are any gaps in services and resources at present.

Jack Sargeant MS declared the following relevant interest under Standing Order 17.24A:

 

He knows the petitioner and launched the all-Wales adult first seizure and epilepsy management pathway in the Senedd last year.

 

The Committee noted the response and agreed to write back to the Minister to ask what the plans are to increase the number and spread of epilepsy specialist nurses across Wales.
