The Committee considered the correspondence received and in light of the Welsh Government’s intention to introduce a White Paper for an Agriculture Bill during the next Senedd term, agreed there were no further actions it could undertake ahead of the 2021 Senedd elections. The Committee agreed to close the petition and thank the petitioner.

The Committee considered an update on the petition and agreed to write back to the Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs to ask whether the Welsh Government draws a distinction between different reasons for using snares and whether she would consider taking stronger action in relation to their use for the purpose of trade in fur.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write back to the Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs to ask for details of work done since the publication of the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee’s report on the use of snares in Wales, including in relation to the collection of data and annual reviews of the Code of Practice.
