history of the petition. In light of the
previous plenary debate, Committee consideration and debates in the courts, the
Committee agreed that this is as far as it can be taken and agreed to close the
petition.

This petition was considered with P-05-1001 Hold an independent inquiry into the choice of site for the proposed new Velindre Cancer Centre
The Committee considered the further correspondence received and agreed to:

write
to Velindre University NHS Trust to seek a response to a number of further
questions, including in relation to the existence of the ‘Barrett report’,
concerns raised by the BMA in August about staff consultation, and the number
of emergency calls and transfers to other sites; and
·
write
to the Business Committee to ask whether it would be possible for a
Plenary debate on the
petitions to be scheduled
before the end of this Senedd.

This
petition was considered alongside P-05-1001
Hold an independent inquiry into the choice of site for the proposed new
Velindre Cancer Centre.
In
light of the new evidence received from a number of parties and the recent
publication of advice provided by the Nuffield Trust, the Committee agreed to write
back to the Minister for Health and Social Services to:
·
Draw attention to the information
received by the Committee in the context of the scrutiny of the Outline
Business Case (OBC) within the Welsh Government;
·
Request an update on the current status
of this work following the publication of the Nuffield Trust advice, and an
indicative timeline for further consideration of the OBC by the Welsh
Government; and
·
Seek a response to further points made
by the petitioners for P-05-1001 in respect of their view that a full
independent review of the clinical model is still required, before a decision is
made on the project.

The Committee considered for the petition for the first time alongside P-05-1018 Support for the current proposed plans to build a new Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff, in any future inquiry and agreed to:
- write again to the
Minister for Health and Social Services to seek a response to the
petitions, as well as in relation to concerns recently expressed over the
clinical model;
- write to the Chair of the
Health and Social Care Committee to ask whether that committee intends to
conduct any work into this matter;
- write to Velindre
University NHS Trust to ask a number of further questions with regards to
the Transforming Cancer Services programme; and
- write to cancer leads in
each health board in Wales to seek their views on the model proposed.
