The Committee considered the correspondence received and agreed, due to the fact that local support and policies for public transport services in Blaenau Gwent are a matter for the local authority and would be better taken forward through scrutiny by its own members and committees, to close the petition and thank the petitioner.

 

In doing so, Members agreed to provide the petitioner’s further questions to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and request that the Council engages directly with the Ebbw Fawr Business Community on the matters raised.

The Committee considered further information and agreed to write to:

·         Blaenau Gwent Council again to seek a response to the previous correspondence, taking into account the subsequent impact of the Covid-19 pandemic; and

·         the Welsh Government regarding the progress of the work undertaken by the Valleys Taskforce, the implementation of the delivery plan and what plans the Welsh Government have to update their Strategy for Public Transport for the short, medium and long term in light of Covid-19.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to:

·         write to Blaenau Gwent Council to seek their views on the petition and public transport provision, the challenges faced and their plans for improving services, as well as any opportunities arising from the future Buses (Wales) Bill; and

·         write to Transport for Wales to seek their views on the issues raised.
