The Committee considered an update on the petition and noted that the NICE guideline for chronic fatigue syndrome is currently under review and an updated version due to be published in April 2021. In light of this, the Committee agreed to close the petition and write to the petitioner to thank her for her engagement with the process, and to encourage her to contribute to the review of the NICE guidelines. The Committee also agreed that it would highlight the petition and the evidence received to NICE.

The Committee considered further information and agreed to write back to the Minister for Health and Social Services to share the recommendations provided by the Welsh Association of ME and CFS Support (WAMES) and seek a response to these.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to seek the views of Action for ME and the Welsh Association of ME and CFS Support on the sufficiency of current services in Wales and the approach outlined by Welsh Government, including whether their role on the Advisory Group will continue.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write back to the Minister for Health and Social Services to ask:

·                     for information about the membership, remit and programme of the steering group, including an overview of how service user representatives are identified; and

·                     for the Welsh Government’s response to criticisms made by Dr Charles Shepherd about the provision of services in the Welsh NHS.
