Minutes:
The Committee agreed to write back to the Minister for
Health and Social Services to draw attention to the further information gathered
and to the suggestions made around developing cluster arrangements for GP
practices to access equipment and a loan scheme. In line with the proposal from
the BMA, the Committee also agreed to ask whether the Government will consider
instigating discussions with health boards and patient groups, such as SHINE,
to develop solutions to this problem.

Minutes:
In light of the responses provided by the Minister for Health and Social Services and the Equality and Human Rights Commission that health boards have duties in relation to ensuring that GP services commissioned can meet equality duties and the needs of their local populations, the Committee agreed to write to all local health boards to ask for details of how many GP practices in their areas provide adjustable treatment beds and hoists for the use of disabled patients.
The Committee also agreed to write to SHINE (Spinabifida and Hydrocephalus Information Network Equality) and the Spinal Injuries Association, to seek their views and experiences of the provision of adjustable treatment beds and hoists in GP services in Wales.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to:
· seek information from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission about the issues raised in the petition; and
· seek further advice about what action the Welsh Government or health boards would potentially be able to take in order to ensure the availability of appropriate equipment and facilities in GP practices.

Minutes:
The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write back to the Minister for Health and Social Services to:
· provide the additional information submitted by the petitioner;
· ask for a response to the proposal that the Government should ensure that every GP surgery has a wide adjustable treatment bed and hoist available, through funding or other means;
· ask for any examples of best practice that the Minister could share with health boards; and
· ask what consideration has been given to formalising the requirements in legislation, beyond the guidance currently available.
