Given that only the University of London Institution in Paris can decide whether to apply for its courses to be specifically designated to be eligible for student support, there is little else that the Committee can achieve at this stage. The Committee therefore agreed to close the petition and to write to the University and the petitioner to explain the decision taken and propose that the University applies for designation.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to write back to the Minister for Education to seek a further response on the issue of designating the specific courses at the University of London Institute in Paris as eligible for funding, as an alternative to making more widespread changes to the Regulations.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to provide the information received from the University of London Institute in Paris to the Minister for Education and ask for her to provide a further view in relation to the appropriateness of designating courses at the institution, in light of the clarifications provided.

·         for its perspective on the issues raised by the petition; and

·         details of any discussions held with the Welsh Government on this matter.

o   whether she would consider ‘designating’ the courses provided by the University of London Institute in Paris to enable Welsh-resident students to receive student support to study there; and

o   whether any discussions have been held with the institution about this.
