In light of the evidence received by the Committee and the publication of new Statutory Guidance on school uniform policies, the Committee agreed to close the petition and thank the petitioners for raising this issue through the petitions process.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to await the views of the petitioner on the response provided by the Minister for Education and the actions taken by the Welsh Government.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to write back to the Minister for Education to ask what support and encouragement the Welsh Government is able to provide to schools and other bodies facilitating the operation of used uniform schemes, such as that operating in Denbighshire.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write to:

·         Children in Wales to make them aware of proposal for a used uniform scheme in the context of the guides they are producing in relation to the cost of the school day, and to ask for their views in relation to how widely applicable such a scheme could be; and

·         the Welsh Local Government Association to ask what the position is regarding a used school uniform policies across local authorities in Wales.
