The Committee agreed to close the petition in light of indications received from Tro’r Trai that they are not yet responsible for the protection of the mural, and the previous responses received. In doing so the Committee wished to thank the petitioner and the supporters of the petition for their work to protect the mural.

The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to:

·         write to Tro’r Trai, the charity now taking on the role of protecting the mural, to ask for it to outline how it plans to carrying out this role in the future; and

·         to offer its thanks to Dilys Davies for her role in purchasing the mural to facilitate its protection for the future.

The Committee considered further correspondence on the petition and agreed to:

·         write to Ceredigion Council to ask what involvement it could have in helping to protect the mural;

·         write to Llanrhystud Community Council to ask for information about the work it will be leading to devise a long term management plan, and the likely timescales for this; and

·         seek a further update from the Welsh Government in due course.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to:

  • await the views of the petitioner on the response from the Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism; and
  • write to the Deputy Minister to:

·         request an update on the outcome of the meeting between officials, the Community Council and the National Trust;

·         ask what measures could be taken to physically protect the mural; and

·         ask for additional information about the previous consideration given to whether the mural meets the criteria for listing or designation as a scheduled monument, and what consideration has been given to updating the criteria used for listing buildings of special architectural or historical interest.
