The Committee agreed to close the petition because it is not possible to identify how to take the petition forward in the absence of contact with the petitioner, and given some of the work already undertaken to commemorate the life of William Williams. 

In doing so, the Committee agreed to thank the petitioner for bringing the petition forward and for his work on this subject.

Rhun ap Iorwerth  declared the following relevant interest under Standing Order 17.24A:

He is in contact with the lead petitioner regarding the matter.

The Committee considered correspondence from the Arts Council for Wales and agreed to write to the petitioner to share information about the recent event in the Senedd and the answers given by the Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure, and ask if he knows of any suitable organisations or individuals who could bring forward concrete proposals.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write to the Arts Council for Wales to ask whether:

 

o   any events or activities have been held during 2017 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of William Williams;

o   if not, what consideration was given to marking this milestone during the year; and

o   for their views on the proposals made by the petitioner.
