The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to contact Cwm Tâf Morgannwg University Health Board to ask for them to take forward a meeting with the petitioner over the support services provided to families with children with disabilities, as previously agreed, and ask them to provide an update once this has taken place.

The Committee agreed to await the views of the petitioner on the response received from the Minister for Health and Social Services before considering whether to take further action on the petition. The Committee also agreed to ask the petitioner whether her planned meeting with Cwm Taf University Health Board has taken place.

The Committee considered further comments from the petitioner and agreed to write to the Minister for Health and Social Services to ask what provision there is for children with autism or learning difficulties, in cases where mental health support may not be the most appropriate solution.

The Committee considered correspondence from Cwm Taf University Health Board, together with further comments from the petitioner, and agreed to write back to Cwm Taf UHB to request that they meet the petitioner to discuss her concerns about the support available and possible future care options, with a view to closing the petition once a meeting has taken place.

He has previously worked in the field relevant to the subject area of the petition and made referrals to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). 

 

The Committee considered correspondence from the Cabinet Secretary for Health Well-being and Sport and agreed to seek the views of the petitioner on the response received from the Cabinet Secretary before deciding what further action to take on the petition.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to write to the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport to share the experiences of the petitioner and ask:

  • whether it is typical across Wales for children with learning difficulties not to be able to access CAMHS crisis care teams; and
  • whether there are any plans to expand access to these services.
