The Committee considered an update on the petition and agreed to close it at this point in light of the measures which are being taken at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and the fact that the Health Board is providing regular reporting to the Community Health Council on performance.

The Committee considered correspondence from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and agreed to accept their offer of a further update on developments in six months.

The Committee considered correspondence from North Wales Community Health Council and agreed to write to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to ask for an update on the subject matter of the petition since previous correspondence, and for details of their response to the findings and recommendations of the Wales CHC review into patient experience in A&E and recent figures relating to waiting times at Wrexham Maelor.

The Committee considered correspondence from the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services and agreed to:

·         await the views of the petitioner on the latest information received from the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services; and

·         write to North Wales Community Health Council to ask about their awareness of concerns in relation to waiting times at Wrexham Maelor Hospital A&E department, and whether they have carried out any work on this issue.

The Committee considered correspondence from the Cabinet Secretary for Health Well-being and Sport along with further comments from the petitioner and agreed to ask the Cabinet Secretary to update the Committee when the outcome of the current six-month targeted intervention, and the impact it has on emergency waiting times, is known.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to write to the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport to ask whether A&E waiting times have continued to improve at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and what steps are being taken nationally to improve emergency waiting times.

The Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to await the view of the petitioner in response to the correspondence from the Welsh Government and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board before considering how best to progress the petition.

The Committee considered the petition for the first time and agreed to await the view of the petitioner, and to write to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to ask what steps are being taken to improve A&E waiting times at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
