The Committee considered further correspondence and agreed to close the petition on the basis that there appears to be little more that the petition can achieve in light of the recent implementation of the Regulations and the assurances provided by the Minister that the purpose of the review will be to seek ways to strengthen them.

The Committee considered an update and further correspondence and agreed to write to the Minister for Health and Social Services to ask whether he can provide a guarantee that the provisions of the National Health Service (Welsh Language in Primary Care Services) (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Wales) Regulations 2019 will not be weakened following the planned review during 2019/20, and an assurance that one of the purposes of the review will be to identify areas in which the Regulations can be strengthened.

The Committee considered correspondence from the Minister for Welsh Language and Lifelong Learning and agreed to await the views of the petitioners and to consider the petition again following work being undertaken by the Culture, Welsh Language and Communications Committee on the Welsh Language Standards (Health Sector) regulations.

The Committee considered correspondence from the Welsh Language Commissioner and agreed to await the publication of the Welsh Government’s response to the consultation and the draft regulations they bring forward, and consider the petition again at that stage.

·         await the Welsh Government’s response to the recent public consultation on this issue and the draft regulations they bring forward; and

·         in the meantime, write to the Welsh Language Commissioner seeking her views on the issues raised by the petition.
