5 Letter from Cabinet Secretary for Health, Well-being and Sport - Revised School Nurse Framework

The Committee wrote to the Cabinet Secretary requesting clarification about school nurses’ relationship with learners who have long-term or chronic health conditions, and querying the lack of a reference to existing healthcare needs guidance in the Revised Framework. This is a response to that letter.

It was agreed that a note on the following would be provided:

 

An update on the publication of the data on the CAMHS assessment time targets;

 

An update on the review ‘A Framework for a School Nursing Services for Wales’ following the meeting with the Chief Nursing Officer;

 

Breast feeding rates in Wales at six months;

 

A Note on Neonatal Services across Wales, including an update on hospitals that are on the ‘at risk’ register.

Under Standing Order 17.24 Hefin David AM declared he was a former lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

 

The Committee scrutinised the Cabinet Secretary and the Minister on their areas of responsibility.

 

The Minister for Public Health and Social Services agreed to provide a copy of the letter sent to the Secretary of State for Health regarding the UK Childhood Obesity Strategy.

 

The Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Sport agreed to provide:

·         A note on the number of school nurses in Wales;

·         An update on the review being undertaken by the Chief Nursing Officer on school nursing; and

·         The latest plans on the new neonatal development in Cardiff.
