The
Committee considered correspondence from the First Minister, the Welsh Language
Commissioner and the former Chair of the Communities, Equality and Local
Government Committee and in view of all the responses received, and the
recommendation in the Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee’s
legacy report, agreed to close the petition.

The
Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to write to:

The
Welsh Language Commissioner and the First Minister to seek their views on the
petitioners’ comments;
·
The
Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee who have recently taken
oral evidence from the Commissioner on this point, to ask them to take into
account the petitioners’ comments in following up that evidence session and the
timescale for completion of their work on the issue.

The
Committee considered correspondence on the petition and agreed to write to:

The
Welsh Language Commissioner to ask for the timetable for reviewing standards
for the private and voluntary sector bodies that were not included in the first
tranche; and
·
The
First Minister to:
o
confirm
that it is the Government’s intention to act on that timetable;
o
provide
further information on the Government’s intentions in respect of amending the
Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011;
o
seek
further information on the reasons why the Welsh Government has asked for
certain businesses to be withdrawn as part of the third tranche of standards;
and
o
seek
clarification on the role of the Welsh Language Commissioner in deciding which
businesses should be withdrawn.
