3.1 The Committee took further evidence from the Welsh Government Director General for Business, Enterprise and Technology, James Price and the Deputy Director of Delivery, Gareth Morgan.

3.2 James Price agreed to provide the following to the Committee:

·         confirm what date the decision was taken to retender the Cardiff to Anglesey Air Service; and at what point Arup were commissioned to support the retendering process;

·         provide information on what experience Arup has in terms of providing advice in this field in Britain and why specifically Arup were selected;

·         provide a note confirming how much of the 15% increase on last years’ service bookings was as a direct result of the new marketing strategy and how the Welsh Government intends to evaluate this strategy; and

·         share the redacted Arup report when it is available.

5.1 The Committee considered the Welsh Government’s response and agreed that an update be sought in Spring 2015 by which time the new contract should have been awarded. The Committee also agreed that, in the interim, the Chair should write to the Welsh Government requesting that it shares the information it is able to do with the Committee regarding the full scope, content, methodology and timescale for the ARUP review as well as the tender document for the air service.

4.2 The Chair agreed to write to the Director General with a number of issues raised during this session and in Item 7.

5.1 The Committee received an oral briefing from the Wales Audit Office on the Intra-Wales – Cardiff to Anglesey – Air Service and agreed to hold a short inquiry into this issue later in the term.

1.1        The Committee considered correspondence from the Auditor General for Wales on the Welsh Government’s subsidy of the Anglesey to Cardiff air link.

1.2        The Committee noted that the Auditor General for Wales was conducting a value for money study on the Welsh Government’s acquisition of Cardiff International Airport.

1.3        The Auditor General for Wales agreed to prepare a briefing note on the Welsh Government’s subsidy of the Anglesey to Cardiff air link.

1.4        The Auditor General for Wales agreed to provide a note outlining the scope of his investigations into the Welsh Government’s acquisition of Cardiff International Airport and the Welsh Government’s subsidy of the Anglesey to Cardiff air link.
