Orders of the National Assembly for Wales
SO6.1
At its first meeting after an Assembly election, the Assembly must elect from
its Members a Presiding Officer and a Deputy.
SO6.2
If the office of the Presiding Officer or that of the Deputy becomes vacant,
the Assembly must, as soon as possible, elect a Member to fill the vacancy. The
election of a Presiding Officer takes precedence over all other business.
Decision:
The item started at 14.17.
The Presiding Officer (Elin Jones) invited nominations
in accordance with Standing Order 6.6.
David Rees nominated John Griffiths.
Janet Finch-Saunders seconded the nomination.
Joyce Watson nominated Ann Jones.
Angela Burns seconded the nomination.
The Presiding Officer invited the candidates to
address the Assembly.
As there were two nominations, a secret ballot took
place in accordance with Standing Order 6.8.
