Purpose:

Standing Orders of the National Assembly for Wales

SO6.1 At its first meeting after an Assembly election, the Assembly must elect from its Members a Presiding Officer and a Deputy.

SO6.2 If the office of the Presiding Officer or that of the Deputy becomes vacant, the Assembly must, as soon as possible, elect a Member to fill the vacancy. The election of a Presiding Officer takes precedence over all other business

Decision:

The former Presiding Officer invited nominations in accordance with Standing Order 6.6.

 

Ieuan Wyn Jones proposed the nomination of Rosemary Butler.
Paul Davies seconded the nomination.

 

As no other nominations were made, the former Presiding Officer declared Rosemary Butler elected as Presiding Officer.

 

The Presiding Officer took the Chair and addressed the Assembly.
